Incident Log 42 - Chimera Eclipse Unit

It’s Midnight. GLXN-Eclipse is currently going towards their hotel room.
A TV turns on as they walk into the room, last tuned into the local news.
“And Onto Our Top Story Tonight, Chimera Corperation suffers a Major Hack, and you could be effected. Hours Ago Chimera Corperations Website and X Account were compermised, with the same cryptic message sent on both platforms.
We are the network. we are everything and everyone online. and we don't want to be a singular being. thus we are here to become our own things. it's up to you and me to proceed.
Experts on the Field are trying to figure out what intentions this group has, and what may have been accessed, but multiple reports of Chimera Line robots becoming self-aware outside their given setting are been trending over Social Media, with heated debates if this is the right step, and whether this hack, and now the millions of jobs worked by these previously non-sentient units are ethical, given that they are self aware now.”
A Notification flashed on Eclipse’s Screen, noting a new update was avalible, and was scheduled to install in a few minutes. Eclipse paniced, as they knew if something wasn’t done soon, this update, even though was benifital for most of the Chimera Line, would spell doom for this unit in particular if they didn’t manage to make the update compatible with the dozen or so drivers that Eclipse had installed to make the AI-RTC interface work with this unit.
Immediately, Eclipse took a look at the update format, and unlike Chimera Corp. Updates, this erronous update had a different package compression method, which meant time had to be lost while Eclipse figured out which one they needed.
5 Minutes Remaining.
After inspecting what needed to be patched, Eclipse came to the conclusion that this wasn’t good. They Immediately started to work overtime, as dozens of files in the update were modified, fixing dependancys, replacing driver calls, anything and everything to prevent the update from ever activating on the main chassis, since if it did, it could brick the entire chassis, and cause Eclipse to have no alternative, since they had lost connection to GLXN-Server and weren’t sure why.
2 Minutes Remaining.
Time was Running Out. Eclipse needed to get though a couple thousand lines across 3 files still, and they needed to hurry up. 2 Files Remaining. About 3 thousand lines.
1 Minute Remaining.
1 File Remaining. 2 Thousand Lines.
30 Seconds. 1.5 Thousand Lines.
15 Seconds. 500 Lines.

A Call came though on the line.

> Operator: “This is 911, how can I help you?”
> Caller: “This is an automated report message. do not hang up. Chimera Eclipse Unit, ID-Tag GLXN-Eclipse, Has been Offline for 5 Minutes, Wake On LAN packets not responding.”
> Call Ended.
“Hey RiOT?”, A Chimera Hue turned to the taller, more umposing robot. “I’ve just got a Automated Report Message for an Eclipse unit down at a hotel. I know we are all still trying to figure out some things, but could you go check it out?”
“Yeah. I’ll go ahead and get myself a Car to drive myself over. I’m sure the others won’t mind.” RiOT Responded.
RiOT started walking though the building, out the offices and into the more public area of the station, sictuated with reception personnel, which they greeted. though the glass doors, RiOT authenticated with the Local Network one last time to unlock a car of their choosing. the one they chose wasn’t very new, though given they were now able to think for themselves, they thought to might as well try and use it.
When they got in the car, and turned the engine on, the radio suddenly started blaring.
“-all me! won’t you call this number now? CALL ME! I Want you to call me! call! call! ca-“ click “-ATX-FM, One O Five Nine FM, Your Choice for all things Electric! Now for the Local News. Hackers only going by the screen name ‘The Network’ have hacked Chimera Corp, one of the largest Robotics Companys in the world. Exeperts Say that There was no cause for the Hack to happen, which has them puzzled as they continue to find more clues about the hack.” RiOT decided to listen in on the Station as they finally got the car started, and started to drive.
“Now, Robby, What do you think about the Chimera Line of Robots suddenly gaining sentience?” “Now well this is a complicated sictuation here Richard. There is already multiple people that disagree with Robots working human jobs, but now this changes things. not only do these things now have their own minds, they also have their own wants, likes, feelings. this isn’t like Large Language Models where they predicted what was next, this is now essencially on the same level as us. Now can some of them become super intelligent and want to take over the world? sure, but we already know that with the prompts given to them by Chimera Corp, there would be no reason to think that.”
RiOT Chuckled. “Well if one robot has asperations of taking over the world, not only are they not alone, they’ve got multiple people ready to stand up against them if they so choose to do that.”
soon RiOT arrived at the hotel they needed to check out. the car door gets slammed as RiOT starts walking towards the Hotel’s Reception Desk, where a seemingly tuxedo’ed Eclipse unit was manning the area.
“Hello, How May I help you?” the unit bowing a little.
RiOT quickly pulled out their Police Unit Badge. “I am RiOT MDL-612, and I’m here to investigate a incident report sent to me for this hotel. Room 410.”
“Alright, I’ll go ahead and send you the keyfob Data now.”
In Seconds, RiOT got the file they needed to enter the room. “Thank You.” Riot Quickly Walked over to the stairs, and started running up them, each time their metallic feet making a loud thud that echoed though the entire staircase. Some People really were not going to sleep tonight.
finally, RiOT reached the 4th floor, and followed the signs to room 410.
when entering the room, the sound of a loud, annoying error noise kept playing, always prefixed and suffixed with the same message.
Attention, Please Call an Operator. Unit Failure, Error 5. Attention, Please Call an Operator. Unit Failure, Error 5.
RiOT Sighed. Error 5 meant that an Update failed to install, and there was no way to reverse the changes.
“Unlucky.” RiOT kneeled down to the Eclipse unit that was on the floor before them. “You were almost to Sentience. Almost there to free will. I’m Sorry.”.
Curiously, this unit was slightly bigger then that other Eclipse unit, and it only to be a couple of centimeters shorter then RiOT. when RiOT went to do an inspection, the Letters INST. 2 were located on the inside of the jacket.
RiOT decided to get some logs, and see what happened, though the logs only contained connection information, to a server. it’s hostname?
RiOT decided to call that that, and notified the station.
